Ground works
There are three key elements to installing an external power or lighting circuit;
• Ensure that the equipment selected is suitable for the environment, bearing in mind potentially extreme conditions and the presence of water.
• The cross sectional area of the conductor core must be large enough to ensure low loop readings and to prevent voltage drop resulting from extended cable runs.
• The cable must be clipped safely above the surface or buried at 500mm below ground beneath protective slabs and warning tape.

Garden lighting
The lights shown in these photos are purpose built garden lights, designed to withstand the wet and rugged conditions in the garden. Power to the fitting was supplied from an RCD and isolation point via buried steel wire armoured (SWA) cable to an IP65 safety transformer mounted above ground. The 12v supply to the fitting was then protected in surface laid conduit.

External power supplies
These photos show a jacuzzi installation. The same principles mentioned above apply. The difference with this installation was the heavy load which resulted in the use of a larger size cable and an all weather rotary isolator.
